Youth Employment Success + Aotea Security. The Value of Whanaungatanga.

By Jay Haerewa | Posted: Thursday December 15, 2022

At YES, we understand the importance of relationships and kinship developed through the value of a shared goal or purpose.

The YES kaupapa is to provide positive access and exposure to employment and industries for rangatahi aged 16-24 years with the goal of increasing the odds of positive employment outcomes in the future; without the relationships we have with our awesome employers who are committed to providing such opportunities this would not be possible.

When we work together towards a shared goal, great things can happen. A wonderful example of this was one of our fantastic opportunity seekers landing a role with the team at Aotea Security. Aotea Security has been a part of the YES whānau since August 2018. In that time, they have offered a slew of opportunities to the rangatahi of Ōtepoti, from coffee dates to desk shadowing and industry entry discussions. Giving rangatahi insight into their industry and the pathways available.

Most recently, they were guest speakers at our award-winning Operation Find My Job - Virtual Job Fair.
So when Bailey Phizacklea, a YES opportunity seeker, reached out to the YES team about finding opportunities in the electrical industry, we knew that one of our fantastic employers would be willing to connect with him, so we showed Bailey how to apply via the YES website. And sure enough, within a week or so, Bailey had been into Aotea Security to learn about their security technicians' roles. Not long after that, he'd secured an apprenticeship role. Wohooo!!

Being an employer in the YES program means that you appreciate the value that young people bring to your business and industry, and you are committed to sharing your knowledge of industry and employment; this outcome with Bailey & Aotea Security is a fantastic example of this in action.

So if you are an employer and our kaupapa aligns with your values, get in touch with us. And if you are a rangatahi looking to connect with and learn about career pathways and employability, check out the opportunities available on the YES website today.
