Hindsight Advice: Stories for Employment Success

By Jake McKay | Posted: Tuesday June 28, 2016

We recently reached out to our Facebook following and asked the question 'What piece of career advice wouldyou give your younger self if you had the chance?' We had such an amazing response that we couldn't help but share - Check out below for some words of wisdom as told by Dunedin locals and beyond!

Em Hamilton:

"Any job is a good job because it shows future employers you've got the work ethic they're looking for! Don't dismiss a job because it might not be especially glamorous or exciting"

Andrea Howard:

"Always grasp new opportunities in a job, even if they are not technically your tasks. You never know what doors your 'can do' attitude will help open in the future"

Jake McKay:

"Everything happens for a reason. If something doesn't work out or you experience a bit of a knock - It wasn't meant to be. Keep on keeping on!"

Deb Sutton:

"There's no greater waste of time than regret; be open to opportunities and give it a go in order to grow!"

Bekah McNutt:

"Every opportunity and job shapes you, even if it doesn't feel like it at the time. So saying yes to all sorts of challenges pays off!"

Kathy Gibbs:

"Give any opportunity a go, even the ones that at first don't look super exciting. Often it is those ones that open up amazing new opportunities and experiences."

Rebecca Twemlow:

"Smile, ask questions and be interested!"

Andrew Kilsby:

"Always keep yourself open to opportunity. Planning is great, but you can't control where the next opportunity is coming from. Be ready to change!"

Riki Kerr:

"The people you meet and your networks are just as important if not more so than any study/learning."
